たん熊の副料理長だった店主が腕を振るう懐石のコースが基本の店であるが、常連のための10席のカウンターがあり、こちらでは自由に料理を選択させてくれる。食材も、鱧や河豚など関西のものが多い。料理はすべてよく手か入れられており、店主のおもいいれとこだわりが感じられる。先付けは野菜を主にしたものが多いが、品の良いあっさりした味付けである。刺身、煮物、焼き物は旬の肴を素材とするため日によって異なっている。老齢の客が多いため、こちらのおなかにあわせて量を調節してくれるのもうれしい。料理のすべての平均点が高く、格式からも西荻での最高の日本料理店である。ただし、料理長が芸術家的気質の為、気ののらない料理では意外と平凡な味の時がある。本日のおすすめを聞いてお願いするほうが良いだろう。カウンターが絶対のお薦めであるが、ここに座れるようになるまでは客の方にもかなりの努力が必要な店である。一般的には気軽に薦められない店であることで半星評価を控えておいた。前もって食材をお願いし、人数が集められればユニークな特別メニューのコースも考えていただける。過去の例は、カニ、クエ鍋、ウナギ、鳥鍋、ふぐなどなどを素材とした斬新なものが多かった。
2017年お祝い事の会合で個室で昼の懐石。量も十分で京料理を堪能した。アルコールを入れてもCPはお徳で法事などには最適だろう。
