野毛の老舗焼鳥御三家と言われたのは、末広、鳥芳、若竹の3店舗で、ここ若竹は昭和27年創業で文字通りの昭和レトロな木造家屋の雰囲気のあるお店で、御歳を召したご主人と女将さんのコンビネーションが絶妙で、その掛け合いが楽しみで良く通ったものでした。
横浜流の焼き鳥ににんにく味噌を付けながら食べる流儀は、ここ若竹が始めたそうで味噌にニンニク、生姜、山椒、唐辛子等を加えて熟成した味噌が実に美味しかった。
しばらく前に伺うと店は閉じていてひっそりとしていたので心配していましたが、先日前を通りかかると提灯が明るく点灯していたので暖簾をくぐってみました。
聞くと昨年末にリニューアルオープンしたとのことで、若い世代に代替わりしたようです。
店内の構造は、1階が焼き台に向うカウンター席と、以前は小さなテーブル席があったところが壁に向いたカウンター席に変わっていて全部で10席程度。2階にも4名テーブル席が4卓あるとのことです。
内装が綺麗になってアルバイトらしい若者がサービス担当で、焼き手のご主人はガラス張りの焼き台に向かって黙々と串を焼き続けているので、懐かしい大将と女将さんがどうされているのか伺うことが出来ないのがもどかしい。
以前はメニューが無く、おまかせで串5本と大根おろしとスープでしたが、メニューから好きな焼鳥や摘まみを注文する方式に変っていました。
お通しが大根おろしとスープで400円、焼鳥は1本250円がほとんどで一番高い手羽先が320円と、それなりの値段です。
つくねは以前の団子状ではなく、串に巻き付けたつくねで、表面はこんがりきつね色に焼かれていて香ばしくカリっとしていて、中はふわっとした食感で美味しい
色々食べてみましたが美味しかったのは白レバーと半熟のうずら玉子。焼き加減が絶妙でふわっと柔らかくて焼き手の腕の良さが分かります。
総体的には美味しい焼鳥だと思いますが、ほんわかとした雰囲気の以前の店の癒しは望めなくなって残念でした。
