It's been a while, TIEM COM VIETNAM. The chef used to work at the French Embassy in Tokyo. The husband and wife team serves up Vietnamese dishes (although not spicy). It is located near the airport. We ordered up a feast, starting with Goicon (shrimp rolls), Green papaya salad, and Soup. All appetizers had complex flavors, familiar savory flavors to the Asian palate but layered on top of the other influenced as a former French colony. The appetizers are always fun for tasting. This was followed by two stir fries and then noodles in a coconut milk broth. We may have ordered too much. But that didn't stop us from ordering dessert. Their coconut milk ice cream is to die for! We ordered one with hot pumpkin, and another plain as is. Both were amazing. Also be sure to try the different beverages. We sampled the Lotus tea, Guava tea and Lychee tea. Exquisite! The staff is attentive and friendly. And the interior is cute. Great date spot for couples, or a ladies' night out!
Tiem Com Vietnam is probably the best Southeast Asian restaurant in Toyama, specializing in Vietnamese food. The chef used to cook for the French Ambassador in Japan.
Finding Tiem Com Vietnam might be difficult at first. It is near the airport. It looks like a dingy depot from outside, and actually it is quite cramped inside, though the atmosphere is classier than you might expect looking from the outside. It is all consistent with the developing country feel, I suppose.
The real treat is the food. Every bite is an explosion of taste, reminding you that the French have been in Vietnam. We ordered the set menu with some add-ons.... and this is what we got: GOI CUN: Vietnamese spring roll with shrimp, vegetables and a special sweet chili sauce. Exquisite! SALAD: Interesting mix of tastes and texture (soft and crunchie)... Very Exciting! BEEF PHO: I'm glad I got this add-on to the set menu. Very tasty soup! STIR-FRY & RICE: The most filling but perhaps the most average dish of the day... the meat was somewhat tough. DESSERT: Creamy coconut ice cream and fruit... Coconut ice cream!
Will always come here if I want to pamper myself, and so should you!
