Hats Off to you...
...if you can find this place. Before searching the Internet, we had heard of a mysterious Pakistani restaurant in the middle of a used car lot in the middle of the rice fields on Route 8. It was one of the first restaurants that we visited after our son was born... odd choice, I know. Ever since, we've been able to find Kashmir on the Internet, and it seems many Toyama restaurant goers know about it. So, for the English speaker in Toyama... if you can find this place, hats off to you.
It is nothing fancy. The used car lot is not paved. The restaurant has about 10 tables in a rectangular room, much like a simple canteen. There's an old TV playing some Bollywood movie at one end, and a huge Pakistani flag on the other end. Adjoining the canteen is a Pakistani food general store. And adjoining that is the kitchen. The menu is in English, thank goodness, but doesn't explain much. The good stuff of the day is not on the menu, so you'll have to ask the staff. Not just the curry, for example, they may make a variety of naan like cheese naan for you as well. If you go for lunch, there are lunch specials and it's cheaper, not that it's that expensive at night (plus we got a complementary salad and chai). Here's what we ordered:
SAMOSA: Crispy oustide, flavorful inside... served with ketchup on the side (chutney would've been nice)
CHICKEN TANDOORI: Smokey and juicy.
CHICKEN BUTTER MASALA: Rich and creamy.
DAL TADKA: Best dish of the night!
BUTTER NAAN: We thought one would've been enough, but it wasn't.
PLAIN NAAN: So we got another naan.
LASSI: Can never drink too much lassi!
Definitely a unique dining experience.

KASHMIR is a curry house run by Pakistanis. It is literally some warehouses put together in an empty used car lot. And for some reason, this place has reached cult status, being the favorite curry house of many locals. They serve the usual "Indian" fare like Butter Chicken. However, don't overlook the Chicken Karahi or Mutton Karahi, which is a stir fry dish that is popular in Pakistan. Either way, all dishes may not be spicy unless you ask for it. Without spiciness, the food might be blander. It's also harder to go off menu due to the language barrier. They give you two plain naans per serving. If you order more naan, try the garlic naan or keema naan or cheese naan. The tandoori and kebab items are pretty juicy, too.
