I've been waiting to go to Iron Chef Sakai's La Chance for a while now. Finally, my wife treated me to a birthday lunch there. We made reservations in advance, and ordered the 5,800 yen course per person. I also had the wine set which added another 2,500 yen.
The location and view were beautiful. It is located in the park just north of Toyama station. You enter a magnificent lobby. The Maitre D takes you through the lobby into the restaurant. It is all white, with high ceilings and a magnificent view of the river and park. That's because half the restaurant uses large glass windows instead of walls, so there's quite a panoramic view! The service was also incredible. Everyone was extremely polite and all smiles. This was what we ate:
HORS D'OEUVRES; Cauliflower mousse, Chicken, Maguro Tartare (delicious), Foie Gras, Pickle Salad SOUP: Cream of White Asparagus FISH COURSE: Hilgendorf or Nodoguro (expensive fish but unfortunately too salty), a kind of Shellfish, Veggies, Fried Burdock Root, a very delicious white wine and thick cream sauce MEAT COURSE: Steak with Black Truffle Sauce, Tomato Tempura (delicious), Baby Corn, Asparagus, Tomato-Stuffed Mushroom, Mushroom Bacon Wrap (too salty) DESSERT WAGON: Fruit Jelly, Creme Brulee (delicious), Grapefruit Sorbet (delicious), Green Tea Cake, Peanut Pie, Orange-Chocolate Mousse Coconut Cake (delicious), Chocolate Gateaux (delicious) COFFEE HERBAL TEA
The food was filling and good. As you can see, there were many delicious tidbits, but also some that were too salty, especially unfortunate were the Hilgendorf (nodoguro) and the mushroom bacon wrap. But all in all, it was a good full course lunch.
