On a peaceful weekday evening, I visited La Bettola da Ochiai Ikebukuro, tucked away from the busy streets of Ikebukuro. The cozy interior, with warm lighting and a calm atmosphere, made it feel like a hidden retreat for adults.
I chose the B Course (¥5,500). The appetizer plate was beautifully arranged, each item carefully crafted. The chilled corn soup was creamy with a delicate sweetness, the roast pork was tender and juicy, and the broccoli aglio e olio was flavorful with just the right saltiness and aromatic fried garlic.
For pasta, I had the spaghetti with sea urchin cream sauce. The rich, briny uni blended perfectly with the creamy sauce, and the al dente spaghetti carried the flavors beautifully. It was luxurious yet comforting.
The main dish was Shu-mi pork tagliata with balsamic sauce. The thick slices of pork were juicy, full of umami, and well-balanced with a sweet and tangy balsamic reduction. Accompanied by cherry tomatoes and slightly spicy greens, the dish was flavorful and filling.
The house-made focaccia, warm and fluffy, was a delightful touch. It paired wonderfully with each sauce, and the fact that it was refillable added a sense of hospitality.
From appetizer to main , every dish was thoughtfully prepared. Combined with attentive service and a relaxed setting, it made for a memorable dining experience — one that makes you want to return again.
