I visited Gion Endo, a calm and elegant Japanese restaurant in the heart of Gion. One of the highlights of this season is Koppe Crab, available only during this time of year. The shell is packed with meat, rich umami, and plenty of roe, making it an incredibly luxurious dish. A squeeze of sudachi brightens the flavor and truly captures the taste of the season.
The sashimi selection was exceptional — the fatty tuna melted instantly, the white fish was amazingly fresh and delicate. Every piece felt like the “best bite of the night.”
The fried oysters were large, juicy, and perfectly crispy, easily something you’d want to order again. Other dishes like ginkgo nuts and whitebait were simple yet full of seasonal flavor, all prepared with great care.
What I especially loved was their excellent selection of sake that pairs beautifully with the food. I tried the sparkling sake “MICRO BUBBLE,” which was refreshing, smooth, and matched every dish wonderfully.
A peaceful place to enjoy seasonal Japanese cuisine in Gion — definitely a restaurant I’d love to revisit as the seasons change.
