大山詣りの帰りに宿泊しました。
はるか昔、縄文時代から信仰の対象とされてきた大山。山上には阿夫利神社、中腹には大山寺を抱える聖地。同地への参拝は「大山詣り」として江戸時代に流行し、年間20万人もの人々が訪れていたそう。
当時の大山詣りは、同じ信仰を持つ人々で結成された「講」と呼ばれる集団によって行われるのが習わし。そして、阿夫利神社に仕える神官は「先導師」と呼ばれ、講の人々の安全祈願をし、宿泊のお世話をする役割を担ってきました。先導師の伝統は現在にいたるまで受け継がれており、参道付近には宿坊が点在。
それらの宿坊の中で最も麓寄りにあるのが「宿坊 いわ江」。大山の旧参道沿いであるこの地で、江戸時代から代々営んできたという同宿。表に立ち並ぶ玉垣や、玄関から入って階段を登ると現れる立派な神殿が、大山の歴史や伝統を感じさせる。
宿泊するお部屋は宿坊らしい趣のある和室で、ゆったり。また、地元の食材を使った手の込んだ料理の数々は、リピーターも多いほど好評。宿坊らしい雰囲気の中で大山の伝統や味を楽しむひと時。都会の喧騒を離れ、心安らぐ体験が可能。
高い評価を得ているという食事は、それ目当てのリピーターも多いとのこと。手作り豆腐や田楽豆腐など、大山の名物である豆腐料理は絶品。とくに豆腐の唐揚げは好評。その他にも数多くの品が楽しめます。刺身こんにゃくや新鮮な川魚の塩焼き、豚肉の陶板焼きなど。
料理も最高ですが、女将さんたちの人柄に感動しました。華美でもなく、それでいてやさしさ溢れるサービスは星5つ。
外国の方にもぜひ体験していただきたい宿です。
本来はレストランのログですが、みなさんにぜひ宿泊してこの料理を味わっていただきたいです。

Oyama Pilgrimage I stayed overnight on my way back.
Oyama has been a place of worship since ancient times, dating back to the Jomon period. The mountain is home to Afuri Shrine at the summit and Oyama Temple halfway up the slope. Pilgrimages to this sacred site became popular during the Edo period and attracted as many as 200,000 visitors annually.
At that time, the Ooyama Pilgrimage was traditionally conducted by groups called “kō,” formed by people sharing the same faith. The priests serving Afuri Shrine were called “sendo-shi,” and they were responsible for praying for the safety of the kō members and arranging their accommodations. The tradition of the sendō-shi has been passed down to the present day, and there are several temple lodgings scattered along the approach to the shrine.
Among these lodgings, the closest to the foot of the mountain is “Shukubo Iwae.” Located along the old pilgrimage route of Mount Oyama, this lodging has been in operation since the Edo period. The stone fences lining the front and the magnificent shrine that appears when you enter the entrance and climb the stairs give a sense of the history and tradition of Mount Oyama.
The guest rooms are traditional Japanese-style rooms with a relaxed atmosphere. The elaborate dishes made with local ingredients are so popular that many guests return. Enjoy the traditions and flavors of Mount Daisen in the atmosphere of a temple lodging. Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and experience a peaceful stay.
The meals, which have received high praise, are so popular that many guests return just for them. The tofu dishes, such as handmade tofu and field tofu, are a specialty of Mount Daisen and are exquisite. In particular, the fried tofu is highly praised. There are also many other dishes to enjoy, such as sashimi konjac, salt-grilled fresh river fish, and pork陶板焼き.
The food is excellent, but I was also moved by the kindness of the innkeepers. Their service is neither flashy nor overly formal, yet it is filled with warmth and deserves a five-star rating.
This is an inn I would highly recommend to foreign visitors as well.
Although this is originally a restaurant log, I would like everyone to stay here and experience the cuisine.
